This is site-specific theatre--not looking for performance pieces, interpretive stuff, surreal, nothing actually out of the extraordinary. I'm looking for plays that feel as if the audience is sneaking around downtown, spying on people...those are the ones that work the best...when people aren't sure if it's a play or not...and believe me, there've been a few that the audience crowded to watch that were not plays. One minute to ten minutes....fifteen if it's incredible. Here are a some ideas for sites: - Fire escape - Shoe store - City Hall (There is a huge fountain outside) - There are some tiny parks - green spaces - On the street - Art Gallery - Empty store (could be anything) - Bar (we will usually end up in a bar where we can ply the audience with drink). Notes - The hospital, police station, library...all too far to walk to. There is no industry downtown. The royalties are a dollar a minute a night.. A link to the city, if you'd like to get a feel for it:

Dylan Days One Act Playwright Contest. NO FEE. One winner will be named along with honorable mentions. The winning playwright will receive $100 and have their work performed on the Hibbing Community College stage during Dylan Days as the featured entertainment for our annual Literary Showcase. Scripts should be between 30 and 60 minutes in length, and contain 3-6 characters. Settings should be fairly modest, staying away from extravagant set pieces and special effects. Content and subject matter are completely open, but should reflect what Bob Dylan came to be known for - an original voice who embraced a new direction, a unique vision with the power to move people. All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges, and the winning entry will be given a fully mounted production on the Hibbing Community College Theatre stage.
