NO FEE. The advanced theatre class at Newburgh Enlarged City Schools is now accepting submissions for the first annual Evening of New Works Festival, hosted by Terry M. Sandler's Acting III class. The class consists of 14 artists who will be acting, directing, and designing the pieces within NFA's intimate Black Box Theatre. We are interested in one-act plays, comedy or drama, with running times between 10-15 minutes max. No more than four characters. Setting requirements must be minimal. Universal themes and topics desired. Please keep in mind, since this is a public high school, plays should contain appropriate language/content. The students will act as reading committee and will choose 12 plays (six plays performed each night). The playwright's attendance is recommended, but not mandatory. NO FEE. Playwrights are invited to submit original scripts to the third annual Gloria Ann Barnell Peter Playwright Competition. The friends and family of Ms. Peter -- a playwright, actress, and lover of history -- established a fund at the Morgan Opera House in Aurora, to honor her memory and to encourage the writing and production of theatre art. Criteria: the play must be an original work, previously unpublished. It must depict an historical event or historical fiction. It may include one or two acts, no less than 45-60 minutes in total length, and with no limit of form. All scripts must be typed and will become property of the Morgan Opera House. The winner of the $500 prize will be announced in late March and the play will be presented at the Morgan Opera House, a small historic raked theatre, in autumn, 2009.
