Lincoln Boyhood Drama Association is conducting a nationwide search for a playwright who will craft a dramatic presentation of Abraham Lincoln’s presidency, with the message that our 16th president’s character was forged here in southern Indiana. The Lincoln Amphitheatre in Lincoln State Park sits empty. The 1,500-seat, roofed facility once hosted a musical,"Young Abe Lincoln."In 2007, the Indiana Legislature allocated $1.6 million to refurbish the magnificent amphitheatre and produce a new play. This new play will open in June of 2009 as part of our nation’s celebration of the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth. Interested playwrights are asked to review the details at our website and contact us no later than January 7, 2008 with the requested information. Prefer to receive materials electronically

PlayWorks 2008 is a forum for exposure and support of new work and a means to foster the artistic life of theatre faculty and graduate students as well as other practicing playwrights who can benefit from an intense collaborative process. Scripts are to be single-sided and in 12-point font, standard Samuel French format. They can be of any style that lends itself to an effective reading or physical presentation that does not require technical enhancement. Previously produced plays are not eligible. (Support may be available to offset the conference registration fee.)
