Theatre Unleashed seeking Experimental One Act Submissions / Coffee Shop One Acts
6/7
1
Theatre Unleashed LA, CA
#
Coffee Shop One Acts will be a series of Experimental One Acts to be performed throughout coffee shops in Los Angeles. We're currently looking for completely original, unproduced shows 20-30 minutes long, 2-4 characters. Think about the space that you'll be writing for: a table with a couple chairs, a bathroom, a line to get coffee, the entrance to the coffee shop. The idea is to use the environment so that the audience will be experiencing something almost too real - hyper-realism! Use this to your advantage. Be clever, have fun, get a little abstract. Some level of improve written into the piece may be necessary as unexpected things may happen in a coffee shop that may not happen in a theatre space. That's part of the excitement of the project. If someone has to go use the bathroom, for the show to continue, they may need to wait for a patron to finish using the bathroom first. Include a resume, synopsis and character break down of each submission. Email Phillip Kelly

Short new plays (< 15 minutes) that are easily staged and have casts=four or less. Our theater is very small and we normally use a minimal set concept in this festival. We request new work. A play that has had workshops or one or two previous productions is OK, but we are not interested in work that has been produced in numerous other places. We seek complete plays rather than excerpts from a larger work. Please insure submissions have a title page with complete contact information, a character summary, and are in proper script form. There is no charge to enter. 1 submission per playwright.

The Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF announces PlayFest is now accepting submissions for the 2009 Festival. The Harriett Lake Festival of New Plays is a ten-day theatre event in Orlando, Florida. Seeking new full-length plays based on, or inspired by works of classic literature, or historic events and/or persons. These events and persons need not be limited to prior to the 21st Century, nor need they be completely based in reality. We prefer plays that require six actors or less, and have a particular interest in one-person shows. We are also seeking new Musicals and Musical adaptations. We will be a little less strict about the cast size, but are only interested in musicals based on or inspired by works of classic literature and/or historic events and persons. We are also actively soliciting works by Hispanic authors (or subject matter) for our Hispanic Initiative. Works submitted must be written in English. These works too should be inspired by works of classic literature and/or historic events and persons. http://www.orlandoshakes.org/CURRENT_SEASON/PlayFest09Guidelines.htm
