NO FEE. One-act or 'short' play inspired by historical subject. The Centenary Stage Company, an Equity theatre in residence on the campus of Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ is accepting submissions for the Women's Playwrights Series. This season the WPS Festival will also feature a short-play "challenge" contest, based on The Harvard Mastodon. In the 1844, a family of mastodons were discovered and excavated from the great swamplands just north of Hackettstown, and in the shadow of the Delaware Water Gap. The Terminal Moraine of the last ice age ends just a few miles from the site near Stephens State Park in Hackettstown. The skeletal remains of one mastodon now reside in the Harvard Museum. Three submissions from the Harvard Mastodon "Challenge" will be read during the WPS festival week, April 21 - 26, and one will be selected for further development. The winner of the short play contest will receive an honorarium of $150, plus further development by the Centenary Stage Company.

Production in 2010-2011 season. A small honorarium will be paid to the playwright at the end of the run. Plays are only accepted via email. Twenty-first Century Productions is a gay owned theatre company. We seek plays by gay/lesbian/transgendered playwrights (and gay friendly playwrights) who write at the cutting edge of the movement. Plays with egregious social solutions to our current problems of inequality are given the highest priority. Check our website for information about the Lesbian and the Flying Pig if you would like to know more about our philosophy, and check our website and click BIO for information about what we've produced in the past. Submit character breakdown and set requirements, bio, scripts will NOT be returned. 10-30 minute, three character or less. The gay movement for civil rights and equality is currently at a standstill. Indeed, America seems to be moving back to the "stone them or export them" mentality -- or at best, "we accept them if they accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and stop practicing their sinful ways". Our theatre company, although serving Washington, DC, is located in Virginia -- a state that has enacted two laws and an amendment to our Bill of Rights to ensure that homosexuals will never have equality with heterosexuals. We aim to overturn this inequality. Our major goal, as a theatre company, is to fight for equality -- and open those doors that seem to be slamming in our faces. If you are a non-gay/lesbian/transgendered person, but believe in equality and would like to submit your works to us, we will gladly read them.

Founded in 2000, the festival debuted with a program of 10 short plays and music. Since then, it has grown into a five-week extravaganza including short plays, solo shows, music, visual art, dance, teen performances and a benefit for African girls' education. The New York Times raves that Estrogenius 'lives up to its billing as a celebration of women's work."
