Capital T Theatre – Austin

Call for playwriting submissions for "I Heart Wal-Mart" an Original Play Conceived of by Austin's Capital T Theatre. Open call for monologue submissions for this original show. This piece will be professionally produced by Capital T in Austin, Texas. Capital T would prefer the pieces to be based on an actual person or event in some way. Monologues using facts as points of departure will be most appreciated. While Capital T is interested in the perspectives of people who despise the store and what it stands for, we are equally if not more interested in the stories of the people that truly love the store and benefit from the presence of Wal-Mart in their lives *Capital T is interested in diverse viewpoints: racially, culturally, financially, etc. We are interested in a range of opinions from people who buy at a rural store, to the workers in China, etc.*Please keep in mind that I Heart Wal-Mart is conceptualized as a full-length show comprised of multiple monologues. Capital T is most interested in reviewing five to fifteen minute monologue submissions. However, scenes with four characters or less will also be reviewed..*Capital T is very interested in original perspectives and creative staging possibilities.*All submissions must be received by May 1, 2008. *

FEE $10. Welcome to DrekFest: Stage Left’s first ever national search for the worst ten-minute play. DrekFest is on a mission to expose bad writing for what it really is: damn funny. DrekFest is also on a mission to expose the new play development process for what it can be: pretty damn ridiculous. For clarity’s sake, we are not out to make fun of writers! The aims of this contest are to find the worst ten-minute play and to spoof the development process. We are now accepting submissions for terrible ten-minute plays. Of these, four finalists will be performed on Tuesday, June 26 th, 2007 at the Chicago Cultural Center’s Studio Theatre. One of these will be chosen Worst Play by the audience in attendance.

Year-long comprehensive support to one early-career playwright who has received neither wide public recognition nor substantial production opportunities in New York City. The P73 Playwriting Fellowship provides year-long comprehensive support to one early-career playwright who has received neither wide public recognition nor substantial production opportunities in New York City. Through this program, Page 73 provides artistic and financial resources to one emerging playwright as he or she develops a new play that has not received substantial prior development support. The P73 Fellowship is best suited to writers who have concrete and reasonable goals that can be achieved through the resources provided by Page 73. These goals may include, but are not limited to, specific artistic objectives that relate to the development of a new play and assistance in building relationships within the New York City theater community. Please note that funds from the P73 Playwriting Fellowship do not cover full-scale productions under an Actors’ Equity Showcase Contract, LOA or an Actors’ Equity Mini-Contract. The P73 Playwriting Fellowship is made possible by gifts from Joseph and Carson Gleberman, Joanne Jacobson, and the Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust. Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab
5/16
workshop
Writer/Director Lab Co-Chairs, Maria Goyanes and Daniel Manley
86 Franklin Street, Fourth Floor
NY, NY 10013

The Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab was founded in 1998 to explore and develop the work of a new generation of theater artists, and to foster collaborations between writers and directors in the beginning stages of the creative process. From October - April, the Lab meets on alternate weeks. Writers agree in advance to bring in work three times during the six-month cycle. At each meeting, Lab members read the plays aloud, writers and director serving as actors, then together discuss the work. There is an expectation that the writer and director will collaborate outside the meetings, at their own discretion. At the end of the cycle, each of the plays born from the Lab is presented in a public reading series at Soho Rep. Writers and directors must apply separately. At the start of the cycle, each writer invited to join the Lab is matched with a director. Writers interested in participating are asked to apply with a project proposal. Ideally, this is a project you feel will benefit from both group input and close work with a director. The proposed project must be a play in the earliest stages of development, one you have recently begun or would like to begin work on in the coming months. Interested directors are asked to provide a one-page statement of purpose outlining their theatrical sensibilities and concerns. We consider these statements carefully when pairing writers with directors, so please be specific. In selecting Lab members Soho Rep has a policy of favoring new applicants and forging new artistic collaborations. While we value some degree of continuity, we wish to place emphasis on providing this opportunity for new members, and expanding the circle of artists associated with Soho Rep. Please note that we do not accept applications from students engaged in full-time programs.
