138 South Oxford Street, Suite 5C

Brooklyn, NY 11217

#
The P73 Playwriting Fellowship provides year-long comprehensive support to one early-career playwright who has received neither wide public recognition nor substantial production opportunities in New York City. Through this program, Page 73 provides artistic and financial resources to one emerging playwright as he or she develops a new play that has not received substantial prior development support. For the fellowship year, the P73 Playwriting Fellow receives a cash stipend in the amount of $5,000 and development support in the amount of $10,000. The P73 Fellowship is suited to writers who have concrete and reasonable goals that can be achieved through the resources provided by Page 73. These goals may include, but are not limited to, specific artistic objectives that relate to the development of a new play and assistance in building relationships within the New York City theater community.

At the start of the fellowship year, the fellow either must have clearly articulated a proposed project in his or her application or must have provided the first few pages of the new play.

Metropolitan Playhouse

New York, NY 10009

212-995-8410
Metropolitan Playhouse, New York's renowned explorer of America's Theatrical Heritage, is currently accepting submissions for new plays inspired by the life and history of New York's Lower East Side. Submissions will be evaluated by Metropolitan's artistic staff, and we will produce up to 10 of the submitted plays in August 2009, as part of our 6th Annual East Village Chronicles festival. As in prior years, the plays selected will pertain to a chosen theme. For Volume 6, plays should examine the reality of Getting By in the East Village of today and in eras past. Playwrights are encouraged to respond as directly or creatively as they wish to this idea; how the plays relate to the phrase "Getting By" is up to the playwright. Submissions by e-mail accepted and encouraged!

Writer/Director Lab Co-Chairs, Maria Goyanes and Daniel Manley

86 Franklin Street, Fourth Floor

NY, NY 10013

#
The Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab was founded in 1998 to explore and develop the work of a new generation of theater artists, and to foster collaborations between writers and directors in the beginning stages of the creative process. From October - April, the Lab meets on alternate weeks. Writers agree in advance to bring in work three times during the six-month cycle. At each meeting, Lab members read the plays aloud, writers and director serving as actors, then together discuss the work. There is an expectation that the writer and director will collaborate outside the meetings, at their own discretion.

Telluride Playwrights Festival

c/o Sparky Productions

P.O. Box 903,

Telluride, Colorado 81435

#
FEE $15. Sparky Productions’ festival is held in Telluride, Colorado from July 6th -14th, 2009. We provide shared housing, either in condos, guest homes or in private residences. When not rewriting, the participants are expected to meet daily to work on their plays with a group of actors at the Historic Sheridan Opera House, in the heart of town. The town of Telluride is in the mountains, where one usually walks everywhere, to the river, the park, hiking trails and the theatre. We are a small, informal but hard working group, who meet most days and evenings. The group of actors and directors work closely with the playwright in a supportive, informal manner. Throughout the week we provide opportunities to the local community by hosting a workshop on writing and acting. At the end of the festival, we hold public readings, where the community gives their feedback. The intent of the festival is that the community benefits from hearing and discussing new plays and the playwright has the opportunity to develop his or her play to the level where he or she can take it to a larger city for hopefully, a full production. Sparky Productions will reimburse travel expenses, plus add a small stipend. Housing is free. Most nights the locals host the participants with gourmet, communal style meals. Preference will be given to one Colorado playwright. We prefer you send the plays in a pdf form.
