Think sitcoms - short and lots of punches - last punch the biggest! Also keep characters close to the actors' actual ages and try to give both actors equal opportunity to shine. The scenes are used at Comedy Competitions, so I am looking for material that is strong enough to win! Here are the submission guidelines:
Please left align character names in dialogue; 2 character limit; BOTH characters must be from the SAME age group! 4-8 yr, 9-11 yr, or 12-17yr; one page maximum for the 4-8 yr or 9-11 yr groups & 1 1/4 pages maximum for the 12-17yr group; Comedy only!!; no foul language please; scenes should be able to be performed WITHOUT props, costumes, or sound cues; attach each scene separately! Name files as Your Name (first & last) & Scene Title.
Submissions will only be accepted via email & in the formats .doc or .rtf; submit up to 3 scenes; must include Title, Author, Email, Phone #, Brief scene setup, Character Age (& optional description) with each scene - on the same page as the dialogue please!

The purpose of this competition is to encourage students to write plays. Students who are new to playwriting are especially encouraged to write a play and submit it to the competition. The winning three playwrights will be offered an $8,000 scholarship to attend Indiana State University as a Theatre major, contingent on their acceptance and enrollment in the school and the department, as well as a public reading with professional actors at Indiana State University’s professional theater, Crossroads Repertory Theatre, in July 2008.
